Toyota Headlight Wiring Upgrade
Posted by: Rusty_ on Friday, February 15, 2008 (22:31:12)
Headlight upgrade wiring diagram
After a long time procrastinating about upgrading the headlight wiring, I came across a system that worked for me, and I have decided to share it with you. I make no claims to it except it does work for me and if you decide that you want to try it then the information provided here is with all faults if any.

I looked at various other ideas out there, that need diodes and resisters ect to be added, I even thought about going to one of these major 4wd shops and buying an upgrade loom.

The other thing I wanted was to have it set up, so if something did go wrong with it for some unfortunate reason, I could revert back to the original system without much effort.

This system results in a full upgrade of the headlights, allows the use of higher wattage globes, requires nothing to prevent relays from hanging on, and also allows the high beam indicator to work correctly.   read more ...

Setting Up Kegs As Water Tanks On The Hilux
Posted by: Rusty_ on Wednesday, March 19, 2008 (00:01:04)
Beer keg water tank
For this project I used 2 home brew beer kegs or another name is post mix keg.
I know we all drink out of plastic bottle on occasions etc, but I prefer to have our camping water in stainless steel, it's durable, doesn't rust nor leave that plastic taste in your mouth (yuck!)

Another benefit is because they are tucked up and out of the way, they won't get smashed when exiting up out of a gullies. ( even though that bloody draw bar does, that's another project).
A disadvantage I can see is that the weight is behind the rear axle but it's not much and I can live with it.

After I acquired the kegs from my Ol man Very Happy ( Took some convincing )
I removed the tube as per the schematic diagram below, and undid the cap in the middle of the keg, and gave it a clean out with fresh water and vinegar.   read more ...

Battery Cradle Drivers Side
Battery cradle/tray to hold a standard N70 style battery onto a hilux trayback

It was unintentional that the battery tray is able to fit on the left or right side but I'm thankful that it did. I originally had the tray mounted on the passenger side but after some thought about weight distribution I decided to shift it to the drivers side.   read more ...

Canopy Construction On The Hilux

Finished Canopy
In this article I'll be describing with photos how I went about constructing the canopy on our ute.

I have include a couple of snap shots taken out of Autocad14, you can use them as a schematic to write down your measurements. If you have Autocad and would like a copy of the files, please do not hesitate to ask for a copy.

The reason I have left the measurements off is that every tray will have different dimensions and so not to confuse the issue it's better this way.   read more ...

Mounting Hilift Jack On Hilux Drawbar

Hilift on Hilux
Depending on your drawbar this may not suit you, but hopefully it will give you some food for thought how it can be achieved to suit your circumstances.

A good practice before you do any sort of welding on your vehicle is to disconnect the battery or batteries and make sure you have a good earth.

Also check to make sure any wiring is well clear of where the welding is to be done. The heat caused from the welding can cause the wiring to melt and lead to bigger problems.   read more ...
